Karen's Notes

BEAUJOLAIS!

Introducing the exquisite flavors of Beaujolais! Indulge in the bright, fruity notes and elegant aromas of this beloved French wine. Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or a curious newcomer, Beaujolais is the perfect choice for any occasion especially in the spring when we turn to lighter bodied reds and lower alcohol wines. The Beaujolais wine region is to the south of Burgundy and the wines are made from the Gamay grape which is a cross between Pinot Noir and an obscure grape called gouais blanc. In general, the red wines of Beaujolais have a pronounced fruit character on the wild berry and cherry end of the spectrum with low tannins which make them pair well with lighter meats and even fish. The Beaujolais and the Beaujolais -Villages wines are friendly and straightforward and the Cru Beaujolais, those taking their name from their village, are more serious, may be aged and have a savory, spiciness.

Our selection of Beaujolais is broad and unique.

The Domaine de la Madone Beaujolais-Village Le Perréon 2021 offers bright and juicy berry fruit and brisk acidity, with subtle tannins and stony minerality in a long finish.  $16.99

The Domaine Dupeuble Beaujolais Le Breuil 2022 is a classic style Beaujolais from an incredibly ripe vintage. It’s a great combination of exuberant fruit and fresh minerality. And it’s imported by the great Kermit Lynch.

At $18.99 a bottle it is a great value.

Jean-Philippe Granger brings us the 2019 Julienas Clos des Poulettes which lures us with scents of violet and a red fruit aroma. It has great finesse with a tasty balance of spicy, high- toned aromatics and fleshy Gamay fruit.

$19.99

Nicolas Durand Domaine des Bruyeres Moulin-à-Vent 2019. An impressively concentrated cuvée with tons of ripe cherry and strawberry, layered with earthy accents. Elegantly structured on the palate, with medium acidity and tannins, and plenty of ripe red fruit. $20.99

Domaine Ruet Morgon Grands Cras 2019 - one of our favorites with a lovely perfumed nose of wild strawberry and redcurrant. The palate shows beautiful body that frames the invigorating chewy feel which ends with a sleek, fresh finish.

$21.99

Pierre-Marie Chermette Fleurie Les Garants 2018. It is very perfumed with lots of black cherries on the nose and on the palate. It has a ripe and spicy character that balances with the tannins and the ripe fruit. Enjoy it now or lay it down for this is one that can age further. $27.99
